“As you start your new career, be patient. The telephone is not likely to ring at the first moment”, says Wedding Planner, Sarvesh Sambare

He is cool, he is focused, and he is a smart worker. Since the time I have known him, he always had a leadership quality in him. The best part is that he is passionate about whatever he does be it planning weddings, photography anything. He is biotechnologist, then opted for BSC and now has his own Event company, Liv'O'Live Events (LOL)Events. Let’s talk Life with wedding planner and entrepreneur Sarvesh Sambare, where he talks about his journey of life, love for photography , his company and passion for  work.

  • Kindly tell us something about yourself?

I realized while ago that if not for a wedding planner & photographer, I would have probably been a footballer or farmer or a Banker.  I believe human emotions are what drive the world, and that no Wedding is as powerful as the one with raw feelings in it.
It stands testimony to times gone by. A part of your soul is stared in certain photos forever, and I love  to preserve it. Apart from Planning Weddings, I love dogs, reading, and smell of wet soil during rains, new stationery, staring at the sea and Sans Serif Fonts, Not in that order. And FOOD!!!! I love food!! Studied to be a Biotechnologist but currently Planning Weddings happily for 2.5 years and covered 10-20 weddings.
  • What are you currently doing professionally?

Currently I am happily planning Weddings... and creating some "happily ever after moments"

What is wedding planning for you?
Ummm wedding planning for me ...   I always believed in fairy tales and for me “Happily ever after" is not a fairy tale. It is a choice   - So says Fawn Weaver.   People make this beautiful choice to get married we make a promise to you. A sincere promise to give 'your long and happily married life'... a fairy tale beginning, more than what you have imagined!

  • What made you choose this career?

Me & Sajan (now business partners) did the management stuff for a common friend for his wedding, this spread   quite fast and we started getting offers...after few birthdays, engagements and  weddings ... one of the  guests curiously questioned us "How much do you charge for a wedding ? " That was the moment which struck us like a Lightning!!  "Dude ...!!! This shit is serious!!! Why not?? “And that’s how "Liv'O'Live Events" was born.

  • Tell us about Liv'O'Live Events ( LOL)Events?

As mentioned earlier, Me & Sajan (now business partners) did the management stuff for a common friend for his wedding, this spread   quite fast and we started getting offers...after few birthdays, engagements and weddings ... one of the  guests curiously questioned us "How much do you charge for a wedding ? " That was the moment which struck us like a Lightning!!  "Dude ...!!! This shit is serious!!! Why not?? “And that’s how "Liv'O'Live Events" was born. We explained everything to our 2 other enthu cutlets. Joseph aka Joey (techie @ Accenture) & Vishwajeet AKA Dadi (another Techie from Apple Inc.)  Both being part of their respective college fests…. We all had one thing in common... “We don’t like to work for/under anyone... So there was no scope for us doing 9am – 6pm job.

  • Talk about wedding planning as a career?

Well we enjoy weddings, food!! And we enjoy planning big parties and we like working with people? And we are good at negotiating and networking? (People call it JUGAAD). Even though fewer people are getting married, according to various statistical sources, those who are taking this step are older. That means that generally speaking, couples are more established and therefore have more money to spend on their special day. It also means they are so busy with work; they probably do not have a lot of time to plan their own affairs. That's where we come in to the picture...

  • Apart from your job, what do you do in your past time?

When I am not doing Wedding planning, you'll find me doing photography, travelling, exploring new places. Mostly devouring Cup cakes.

  • Advantages of choosing your career?

Ha-ha I have answered this question nearly 500 times... "You are your own BOSS!"  You can take an off as and when you want to. We work around 100-125 days a year!! Or only during wedding season. Wedding planners also have the opportunity   to travel to exotic locations for destination weddings and sample a wide range of gourmet foods, the cost of   which is covered as part of her operating expenses. If you enjoy planning parties and special events and don't   find the details to be troublesome, but rather exciting, fun and challenging, this could be a good line of work for you.

  • How do you plan your weddings once you get your client?

Every wedding is special and different, with all the rituals and nuptials having their equal importance...   Our approach for every wedding is different.

  • Do you have a team or you are only captain of the ship, from conceptualization to execution?
We have a team dedicated for various departments, creativity, Logistics, Entertainment.

  • Challenges that you faced during your journey? How did you overcome them?
Biggest Challenge We faced was convincing and explaining my decision to my parents, and  next explaining our first ever wedding's bride and her parents "Why us?” The most frustrating part is the “Wait" for your first lead...  It was trust and team work that got us through. We respect each other’s decisions and learn from each other as well as from our team.

  • How many years does it take for one to be a professional in this field?
Ummm I really can't say anything on this, we ourselves are still learning & growing with every Wedding... It’s upon how prepared and ready you are when you step in the race. It may take years for someone...while other might take just few months...

  • What was your 'Nothing is Impossible moment'?

It was my first wedding reception which only 2 of us planned and executed, handling musicians, venue, food, logistics, the entry of the bride-groom, the feedback which we got, we haven't got out of that hangover yet.

  • Lastly what advice would you give to the aspiring wedding planners who want to make their mark in the field?

As you start your new career, be patient. The telephone is not likely to ring the first moment.
Your business will probably be small the first year, but it will grow each time you do a wedding. Most brides have been dreaming of their wedding since they were little girls and if they haven’t, you can be sure her mother has! A wedding is one of the most important days in a person’s life and typically the most expensive event they will ever plan. They are hiring you–the professional–to ensure it is exactly as they have envisioned and everything goes as planned. And in today’s society, even one mistake is one too many.
Planning a wedding isn’t like planning a conference or a trade show. There is one factor that makes it unlike planning any other event – Emotion. Although you’ve got to take many of the same details into account, weddings tend to be extremely emotional affairs for everyone involved. Therefore planning a wedding comes with its own unique set of roadblocks. Be ready for it.
The most important advice I’d like to give "Reputation is everything" Every wedding you do... Your reputation is at stake!! So work hard to keep it that level.
